perf(webapp,run-engine): cut CPU on the engine-facing worker-action routes (#4746)
Cuts CPU on the `engine/v1/worker-actions/*` routes a managed supervisor calls, and adds the benchmark harness the numbers come from. Measured on a local stack: **on-CPU per completed run 9.07ms → 6.59ms (−27%)**, busy fraction 45.6% → 33.8%, with every worker-action p50 down 23–27%. Load was 5,000 runs / 24 virtual supervisors / 90s window / 30,120 requests / 0 errors. Query-count work from the same investigation is deliberately **not** here — it will follow as a separate PR. ## The three changes **1. Split the event-loop monitor in two (~14% of on-CPU, plus ~5pp of GC).** `eventLoopMonitor.server.ts` installs a global `async_hooks` hook: `init` writes a `Map` entry for *every* async resource the process creates, `before` calls `process.hrtime()` and `context.active()` on every one. Enabling any async hook also puts V8 on the slow path for promise instrumentation process-wide. `EVENT_LOOP_MONITOR_ENABLED` defaulted to `"1"`, so this was the shipping configuration. The blocked-loop detector is now opt-in (`EVENT_LOOP_MONITOR_ENABLED`, default `0`). The event-loop *utilization* gauge — a single interval timer with no per-request cost — moves to its own flag (`EVENT_LOOP_UTILIZATION_MONITOR_ENABLED`, default `1`) and stays on, so the useful half survives without the expensive half. Bucket route matching by first static path segment (10.4% → 3.9% of on-CPU).** `patches/@remix-run__router@1.23.3.patch` already memoized flattened branches and compiled path regexes. What remained was the linear scan: `matchRouteBranch` walked the ranked branch list calling `matchPath` per branch across 521 route files, so every worker-action request paid a scan proportional to the whole route table. Branches are now indexed by their lowercased leading segment, with one always-considered list for branches whose leading segment is dynamic, splat or optional (and for root/pathless paths). A request walks only its own bucket merged with that list. Route-matching self time dropped 64% (3.6s → 1.3s over a 90s window). Ordering is preserved exactly: both lists hold indexes into the already rank-sorted branch array and are walked in ascending-index order, so the first match found is the same branch the full scan would have found. Bucketing lowercases on both sides, so case-insensitive matching still resolves and `caseSensitive: true` routes are still rejected by `matchPath` itself. A pathname whose own leading segment can't be bucketed falls back to the full scan. Verified equivalent to the unpatched matcher over 20,050 pathnames (literal, dynamic, splat, optional, case variants, basenames, percent-encoded) with zero mismatches. `apps/webapp/test/routeMatchingPatch.test.ts` pins the matching semantics rather than the optimisation, so it still passes without the patch. **3. Demote per-heartbeat and per-dequeue `info` logs to `debug`.** These are the two highest-rate engine calls and each wrote a synchronous structured log line on every request. Synchronous `console` writes can block the loop when stdout backs up, which costs more than the ~1.3% CPU share suggests. ## The harness Two benchmarks, neither in the default suite (they run for minutes, attach the V8 profiler, and report numbers rather than assert on them). See `apps/webapp/test/bench/README.md`. - `apps/webapp/test/bench/engineHttp.bench.test.ts` — spawns a real webapp against throwaway Postgres/Redis containers, seeds a production environment with a promoted managed deployment, and drives a closed-loop supervisor pool through the full lifecycle. Profiling runs over CDP rather than `--cpu-prof` so it covers only the measured window instead of being swamped by boot, and `performance.eventLoopUtilization()` is sampled *inside* the webapp process. - `internal-packages/run-engine/src/engine/bench/runEngineLifecycle.bench.test.ts` — drives `RunEngine` directly, profiling enqueue and lifecycle separately so engine cost isn't mixed with request-stack overhead. - `apps/webapp/test/bench/analyzeProfile.ts` — dependency-free `.cpuprofile` analyzer that symbolicates through the build's source maps and ranks CPU by package, self time and total time. Percentages are shares of on-CPU time (V8's `(idle)`/`(program)` excluded). `startWebapp` gains `overrideEnv`, applied after the worker-disable defaults, so the HTTP bench can re-enable the run engine worker that drains the master queue into the worker queues a supervisor dequeues from. The local OTel collector gains a traces pipeline. It only defined a metrics pipeline, so pointing `INTERNAL_OTEL_TRACE_EXPORTER_URL` at it locally failed and the webapp silently fell back to the console span logger. ## Configuration For operators upgrading: - `EVENT_LOOP_MONITOR_ENABLED` (now defaults to `0`) — the per-async-resource blocked-loop detector. Set to `1` to restore the previous behaviour and keep emitting `event-loop-blocked` spans. - `EVENT_LOOP_UTILIZATION_MONITOR_ENABLED` (new, defaults to `1`) — the `nodejs.event_loop.utilization` gauge. Unchanged in behaviour; it just has its own flag now so it survives turning the detector off. ## Notes for review - `pnpm-lock.yaml` changes only because the router patch content changed, which changes its patch hash. - One thing the profile ruled out: with a real OTLP collector receiving spans, tracing costs ~1.7% of on-CPU at 100% sampling and ~0.8% at the production rate. Span shipping is not a hidden cost, so nothing here touches it. - Caveats on the numbers: a laptop, not production hardware, so DB and Redis *latency* are unrepresentative (client-side CPU is what's ranked); single webapp process; throughput varies ~5% run to run, which is why the claims rest on on-CPU per run rather than req/s. ## Verification - 20,050-pathname router equivalence check vs the unpatched matcher, zero mismatches - `apps/webapp/test/routeMatchingPatch.test.ts` (12 cases) passes - webapp e2e smoke suite (68 tests) passes through the patched router - run-engine suites covering the snapshot/attempt paths pass - `typecheck`, `format`, `lint`, `knip` clean |

test(testcontainers): hoist container boot off the test timer (#4686)
## What The one-off worker container boot is billed to whichever test resolves the fixture first. This moves it into a `beforeAll` with its own timeout. ## Why vitest runs the fixture chain *inside* the test timer: ```js // @vitest/runner 4.1.7 setFn(task, withTimeout(...withFixtures(handler)..., timeout, ...)) ``` There is no `fixtureTimeout`. So booting Postgres (plus `CREATE DATABASE`, schema push, ClickHouse and Redis) lands on the first test and consumes a budget sized for test work. That is why losing the image pre-pull on fork PRs was fatal rather than merely slower: the extra ~10s crossed the 60s cap. Since fork time is roughly internal + 10s and forks exceed 60s, internal runs were already clearing that cap by under 10s — a latent flake regardless of forks. ## How `withWarmup` wraps each fixture family and lazily registers a `beforeAll` on first touch, with its own generous timeout. Registration is lazy so only files that actually use a family pay for it — `@internal/testcontainers` is imported by hundreds of test files, many of which only need Redis. It registers once per file, since `isolate` gives each file a fresh module registry. Eight families are wrapped. `isolatedRedisTest`, `replicationContainerTest` and `postgresAndRedisTest` are deliberately untouched: they use per-test containers by design, so there is no one-off boot to hoist. No test file or CI changes, and it applies to every package using these fixtures. ## Verification Proven by mutation. `src/warmup.test.ts` runs container tests under a deliberately tight cap: | | Result | | --- | --- | | with the warm-up | passes | | warm-up neutered | fails, `Test timed out` | It is kept as a regression test — without it, unwrapping a fixture would break nothing visibly. `triggerFailedTask.call.test.ts`, one of the five shard casualties, passes locally in 20.4s. ## Also here `@internal/testcontainers` had no `test` script, so `turbo run test --filter "@internal/*"` skipped the package and its existing `heteroDedicated.test.ts` never ran in CI. Adding the script (matching the sibling packages') runs both files; verified green through turbo exactly as CI invokes it. |

feat(webapp): hosted webhook ingress, delivery pipeline, and dashboard (#4344)
## Summary The server half of hosted webhooks: the public ingress endpoint, signature verification, the delivery pipeline (Postgres partitioned storage + ClickHouse for ordering), the in-app partition manager, the HTTP API, and the dashboard (Deliveries, Endpoints, and the in-app test console). The public SDK and docs half is #4537. That PR carries the user-facing API (`webhook()`, `chat.event` / `chat.channels`, the `@trigger.dev/slack` connector) and builds on the shared `@trigger.dev/core` schemas that ship here. ## Shipping behind a flag A `WEBHOOK_ENABLED` env var (default off) gates the public ingress route and the engine worker plus partition cron, so merging and deploying this changes nothing in production until it is flipped on per environment. The dashboard is separately gated per org by the `hasWebhooksAccess` feature flag. ## Note on packages This PR includes the `@trigger.dev/core` schema additions the server compiles against, but carries no changeset. Core is not consumed independently of the SDK, so it is released together with the SDK via #4537. Keeping its changeset off `main` means no release cut from `main` publishes it early. |

fix(core): stop custom metric exporters breaking the metrics export (#4613)
## Summary Projects that configure their own `metricExporters` or `metricReaders` in `trigger.config.ts` were losing task metrics on nearly every run, and seeing an unexplained `Failed to flush tracingSDK` alongside `OTLPExporterError: Bad Request` in their run logs. Spans and logs kept working, so the runs otherwise looked healthy. ## Root cause and fix Every configured exporter gets its own `PeriodicExportingMetricReader`, and `meterProvider.forceFlush()` fans out across all readers with `Promise.all`, so two collections can land on the same millisecond. `@opentelemetry/host-metrics` divides by the elapsed interval to compute `process.cpu.utilization` ([common.ts](https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-js-contrib/blob/main/packages/host-metrics/src/stats/common.ts)), so a zero interval yields `0/0`. `JSON.stringify(NaN)` is `null`, and a collector rejects `"asDouble": null` with a 400 that drops the **entire** request, not just the offending point. `flush()` and `shutdown()` now walk the metric readers one at a time, so collections can no longer share a timestamp. Each reader is isolated, so one failing reader cannot skip the readers behind it, and every failure is logged with the reader that produced it. The first error is still rethrown, so callers see failures exactly as before. As a second layer, non-finite data points are dropped just before our own export, so a metric that divides by zero cannot take the rest of the batch with it. Exporters and readers supplied through `trigger.config.ts` are untouched by that filter and still receive raw data. The trade-off is that configured exporters now flush after the built-in one rather than alongside it, so flush latency is the sum rather than the max. An internal test package's dependency on core was replaced with a local helper, because core now needs that package in `devDependencies` and the two together formed a workspace cycle. ## Verification Tested against a real collector in a container: a batch containing a `NaN` reading is rejected with a 400 without the fix and accepted with it, and a single flush is asserted to collect from one reader at a time. |

fix(webapp): keep session runs off the legacy realtime streams backend (#4564)
## Summary Runs created for a Session were triggered without a realtime streams version, so they fell through to the `realtimeStreamsVersion` column default of `v1`. A Session's own `.in` / `.out` channels are always `v2`, so any run-scoped `streams.append()` or `streams.pipe()` call made inside a session run wrote to a different backend than the session it belongs to, and stayed there for the life of the run. The API trigger routes were never affected. They call `determineRealtimeStreamsVersion` with the client's `x-trigger-realtime-streams-version` header and always pass an explicit value, so a current SDK asking for v2 gets it. Only the internal callers that build trigger options by hand were leaning on the column default, which no env var can influence because that path never calls the resolver at all. ## The version resolver Fixing the call site exposed a second problem in `determineRealtimeStreamsVersion`. Its two paths disagreed: an explicit `v2` was checked against the S2 configuration first, but when the caller expressed no preference it returned `REALTIME_STREAMS_DEFAULT_VERSION` verbatim with no check. A deployment that set the default to `v2` without configuring S2 therefore stamped runs `v2`, nothing failed at trigger time, and every later read or write against those runs' streams threw `Realtime streams v2 is required for this run but S2 configuration is missing` for the life of the run. Both paths now resolve through one pure function that takes its configuration rather than reading `env`: ```ts const requested = streamVersion ?? config.defaultVersion; if (requested !== "v2") return "v1"; const hasCredentials = Boolean(config.accessToken) || config.skipAccessTokens; return hasCredentials && Boolean(config.basin) ? "v2" : "v1"; ``` ## The basin requirement `resolveStreamBasin` resolves run, session and organization basins ahead of the global setting, so a deployment that provisions a basin per organization can serve v2 with no global basin at all. Gating purely on the global setting would degrade every run there to `v1`. `determineRealtimeStreamsVersion` therefore takes an optional organization basin, and every caller that holds one passes it, including the session path: ```ts basin: organizationBasinName ?? env.REALTIME_STREAMS_S2_BASIN, ``` This is deliberately the resolved basin and not the `REALTIME_STREAMS_PER_ORG_BASINS_ENABLED` flag. The flag says the feature is on, not that a given organization has been provisioned, and provisioning happens out of band. Keying off the flag would stamp `v2` on runs for unprovisioned organizations, recreating the failure this removes. **This widens behaviour for explicit `v2` requests**, which previously required the global basin: a provisioned organization on a per-org deployment now resolves `v2` where it used to get `v1`. That is intentional, and it makes every path agree. ## Scope Only newly created runs change. A run already stamped `v1` keeps that version for its lifetime by design, since readers resolve the backend from the same column and its existing streams have to stay readable. Scheduled runs reach the same column default through `scheduleEngine.server.ts` and are deliberately left alone: that one is a policy question about `REALTIME_STREAMS_DEFAULT_VERSION` rather than an inconsistency inside a single feature. ## Verification A full-stack e2e boots the real webapp plus Postgres, Redis and s2-lite, creates a Session through the public API so the run comes from the real trigger path, appends records the way `streams.append()` does, and asserts three things at once: the version stamped on the run, that the payload is readable from S2, and that no key exists in Redis. It appends at a realistic record size so the route's body cap and S2's per-record cap are both exercised. Reverting the session-path change flips all three observations, so it fails against the old behaviour rather than passing vacuously. Unit tests cover the resolver matrix, including organization-basin-only and credential-only configurations; two of them fail against the previous resolver. Also verified by hand against a local stack: a real `chat.agent` session run writing 8 records of 250KB through `streams.append()` put 2,049,072 bytes into S2 with no Redis key, while the same agent with the session-path change removed put 2,102,360 bytes into Redis and nothing into S2. |

feat(webapp,run-store): route run-graph reads and writes through the run-store router (#4237)
## Summary Run-graph data (runs, batches, waitpoints, and their related tables) can now live in a database separate from the control plane, with every read and write routed to the correct database by each run's residency. This makes reading and writing run data more reliable once the two are split, and is a no-op for single-database installs. ## Design - Run-graph table access goes through the run-store router, which selects the legacy or the new run-ops store per run instead of assuming one shared client. - The legacy run-ops client is now independently pointable, so legacy run data can be served from its own database (and replica) rather than the control-plane connection. - Run-graph writes go straight to the run-graph database instead of being forwarded through the control plane, and replication targets are split so runs in the new database still replicate to analytics without under-counting. - Read-through slots refuse the control-plane client, so a missing residency fails loudly instead of silently reading the wrong database. - Migration `20260710120000_drop_remaining_run_graph_seam_foreign_keys` drops the foreign keys that still crossed the run-graph / control-plane seam, which is what lets the two live in separate databases. The split stays off unless explicitly enabled and the two databases are confirmed physically distinct; startup fails closed otherwise. Verified by running the full dashboard end-to-end suite against both a single-database configuration and a three-database configuration (control plane, the new database, and a physically separate legacy database), with runs on both residencies. No misrouted reads in either configuration. |

chore(webapp,core): remove the end-of-life v3 (engine V1) execution stack (#4236)
## Summary v3 (the engine that ran the SDK v3 era, internally `RunEngineVersion.V1`) is end-of-life. Following the removal of the v3 execution apps ([#4194](https://github.com/triggerdotdev/trigger.dev/pull/4194)) and the legacy dev websocket ([#4198](https://github.com/triggerdotdev/trigger.dev/pull/4198)), this removes the remaining v3 execution stack from the server. Clients still on v3 (an old SDK or CLI that has not upgraded) keep getting a clear "upgrade to v4" response. Triggers, batch triggers, reschedules, and deploys that resolve to v3 are rejected with a graceful 4xx pointing at the migration guide, never a 5xx, so a stale client cannot affect server health. Self-hosted instances still running v3 should stay on the 4.5.x release line until they migrate. ## What is removed - The MarQS queue and its shared/dev queue consumers. - The v3 socket.io namespaces (coordinator, provider, shared-queue) and the v3 run lifecycle services (attempt, checkpoint, and batch-resume). - The graphile-worker background job system; all live jobs already run on `@trigger.dev/redis-worker`. - The `DEPRECATE_V3_ENABLED` flag: v3 is now rejected unconditionally, so the flag is gone. - Unused v3 exports from `@trigger.dev/core` (the `v3/zodNamespace` subpath and the legacy socket message catalogs) and the now-dead MarQS environment variables. ## What stays The v4 engine is untouched. The graceful v3 rejection boundary stays, `determineEngineVersion` still detects a v3 project so it can reject it, and the batch service plus batch-completion worker stay for current clients. Live queue concurrency limits and metrics now read from the v4 run engine instead of MarQS, and a brand-new dev environment now defaults to v4. ## Dependency cleanup Removes webapp dependencies left unused by this change: `seedrandom` and `semver` (only the removed v3 code used them) plus a set that was already dead, their orphaned `@types` packages, and two dead files. Adds a `knip:deps` script and a `knip.json` config so unused dependencies can be found the same way going forward. |

fix(run-engine,run-store,webapp): stop split-mode waits hanging on resume (#4164)
## Summary On the run-ops database split, a run that waits (`triggerAndWait`, `batchTriggerAndWait`, `wait.forToken`) could hang forever after its wait had already completed. The runner reads a resume from `/snapshots/since` exactly once: if that read returned the resume snapshot without its completed-waitpoints, the runner logged "executing without completed waitpoints", advanced its cursor, and never re-read it, so the awaiting run never continued. ## Root cause The resume snapshot and its completed-waitpoint rows were written as two separate commits. This regressed when the split replaced Prisma's atomic nested `connect` with an FK-free insert (in [#4163](https://github.com/triggerdotdev/trigger.dev/pull/4163)), and `/snapshots/since` is served from a read replica. A fetch landing in the sub-millisecond gap between the two commits, or a multi-reader replica serving the snapshot from a different point in time than its join rows, delivered an empty resume. Because the runner consumes each snapshot once and treats an empty resume as terminal, a single stale read was fatal and produced a permanent, nondeterministic hang. ## Fixes - Commit a snapshot and its completed-waitpoint links in one transaction, restoring the atomicity the split removed. - Repair the completed-waitpoints from the owning primary when a multi-reader replica serves the snapshot without its join rows. This covers single-waitpoint resumes, which carry no `completedWaitpointOrder` and so were missed by the count-based repair. - Read the primary in the checkpoint `WAIT_FOR_BATCH` pre-check, so a batch that already resumed is not re-suspended into a stall. - Fall back to the primary when a waitpoint token misses both read replicas, so a token completed immediately after it was minted no longer returns a spurious 404. - Route batch-item creation by `batchTaskRunId`, consistent with the batch-completion count and the row's foreign key. - Reject control-plane-only relation selects on the dedicated schema with a clear error instead of an opaque Prisma failure, and stop `createDateTimeWaitpoint` bypassing residency routing through a caller transaction. Verified against the deployed split topology: a resume snapshot and its completed-waitpoints are now always delivered together, so the runner can no longer drop a resume. |

feat(run-ops): automatically migrate the dedicated run-ops database (#4150)
## What
Adds the ability to **automatically migrate the dedicated run-ops
database** (the NEW DB in the run-ops split), matching how every other
database in the system is migrated. Follow-up to the run-ops split
activation.
## Changes
- **Migrate runner** — new
`internal-packages/run-ops-database/scripts/migrate.mjs`, exposed as
`db:migrate:deploy` / `db:migrate:status`. Connects via
`RUN_OPS_DATABASE_URL` (the same var the app uses) and expands `${VAR}`
refs like Prisma's dotenv.
- **Self-host** — `docker/scripts/entrypoint.sh` runs the run-ops
migration on boot when the DB is configured, gated by
`SKIP_RUN_OPS_MIGRATIONS`. Single-DB installs never set the URL, so it's
a clean no-op.
- **Single env-var family** — the run-ops DB is now addressed by one
canonical `RUN_OPS_*` family, connect path and migrations resolving the
identical URL:
- `RUN_OPS_DATABASE_URL` (writer) — replaces `TASK_RUN_DATABASE_URL`
- `RUN_OPS_LEGACY_DATABASE_URL` — replaces
`TASK_RUN_LEGACY_DATABASE_URL`
- `RUN_OPS_DATABASE_READ_REPLICA_URL` — replaces
`TASK_RUN_DATABASE_READ_REPLICA_URL`
- the old `TASK_RUN_*` aliases, the `??` coalesce, the
`runOpsNewDatabaseUrl` indirection, and the migrate-only `directUrl` are
all removed (consumers read `env.RUN_OPS_DATABASE_URL` directly).
`directUrl` was dropped because it was only ever used by `prisma
migrate` (never the app runtime) to bypass a pooler for advisory locks —
premature here since the run-ops connection isn't wired to the app yet.
If a pooler is later introduced for the app, a direct URL can be
reintroduced then.
## Safety
- **Pure rename** — nothing deployed sets any `TASK_RUN_*` var (the
split isn't activated anywhere yet; `.env.example`, docker-compose, and
cloud already use `RUN_OPS_*`), so there is no config migration.
- **Single-DB / self-host** — no new required env var; entrypoint and
migrate are no-ops when `RUN_OPS_DATABASE_URL` is unset.
- **Cloud** — runs migrations as pre-deploy ECS tasks (companion cloud
PR), calling these same `db:migrate:deploy` / `db:migrate:status`
commands.
## Verification
- Live migration against a fresh scratch DB with only
`RUN_OPS_DATABASE_URL` set: both migrations applied, no `P1012`/`P1013`;
`${VAR}` expansion, idempotent re-run, `status`, and no-op skip all
pass.
- Schema parity 4/4; `typecheck --filter webapp` 18/18; affected
split/replication tests 34/34.
## Scope
This delivers automatic migrations only. Enabling the app to *use* the
new DB (setting `RUN_OPS_DATABASE_URL` + `RUN_OPS_SPLIT_ENABLED` on the
service) is a separate activation step.

fix(webapp): bound logs search memory and fix pagination at scale (#4012)
## Summary The logs search page (behind a feature flag) ran ClickHouse out of memory when browsing back over long time ranges. This keeps it within bounded memory and fixes a pagination bug that could skip or duplicate rows at a page boundary. ## Fix Memory: the list query reads in sort-key order, which opens one read stream per part in the window, and on object storage those per-part read buffers dominate peak memory, so it scaled with the number of parts scanned. Two changes bound it: - The logs ClickHouse client caps the per-part read buffers via new env-tunable settings. The object-storage-only setting is opt-in, so it is never sent to a ClickHouse version that lacks it. - Recent-first window narrowing: rows come back newest first, so the presenter probes the most recent window and only widens toward the full requested range when a page is short. A busy environment fills a page from a few recent parts instead of scanning the whole range; a quiet one still returns every row in a couple of cheap reads. Correctness: the keyset cursor ordered on (triggered_timestamp, trace_id), which is not unique because the spans of a trace share both, so rows at a tie could be skipped or duplicated across pages. feat(webapp): add a new backend for the realtime runs feed (#3864)
## Summary Adds a second backend for the realtime runs feed (`useRealtimeRun`, `subscribeToRunsWithTag`, `subscribeToBatch`), built to stay healthy when a single busy environment has many subscribers watching many runs at once. It is gated behind a feature flag with the existing backend as the default, so nothing changes for users until it is enabled per environment. ## Design A run change is published once, as a small self-describing record, to a single per-environment channel. Every feed is then a predicate over that one stream rather than owning a channel: - A per-instance router indexes the currently-held feeds by run, tag, and batch. When a run changes it hydrates the affected rows once and serializes them once, then fans the result to every matching feed. One hot shared tag watched by many subscribers costs a single database query and serialize, not one per subscriber. - Feeds that don't match a change are never woken, wake delivery per environment is coalesced on a leading edge (250ms default) so a burst of changes costs one wake, and cold reads coalesce onto a single short-TTL-cached resolve. - An admission gate bounds how many cold ClickHouse resolves run concurrently, so a mass reconnect across many distinct filters queues instead of stampeding the database. - Changes that land while a client is between long-polls are delivered on its next poll instead of waiting for the periodic backstop: each environment buffers its recent change records, subscriptions linger briefly after the last feed closes, and a newly-armed poll replays exactly the connection's gap. - The per-connection replay cursors behind that are shared across instances via Redis (a single timestamp each), so a poll landing on a different instance behind the load balancer still reads the connection's true gap instead of falling back to a cold resolve. Cursor reads have a bounded deadline and degrade to the cold-read path on any Redis trouble. - Tag subscriptions with multiple tags match runs carrying all of the tags, mirroring the existing backend's filter semantics, and live long-polls hold for about 20 seconds to match its cadence. - The per-environment channel supports Redis Cluster sharded pub/sub, so the wake path scales horizontally across shards by environment. - The backend reports its health through OpenTelemetry metrics (delivery lag, poll resolution paths, backstop outcomes, replay and cursor-store activity), with a provisioned Grafana dashboard for local development. fix(run-engine): retry getSnapshotsSince on the replica then primary when the read replica lags (#3889)
## Summary
When `RUN_ENGINE_READ_REPLICA_SNAPSHOTS_SINCE_ENABLED` is on,
`RunEngine.getSnapshotsSince` reads from the read replica. During write
spikes the replica can briefly lag, so the snapshot id a runner just
learned from the writer isn't visible there yet: the lookup threw, the
worker route returned a 500, and the runner waited for its next poll —
turning sub-second snapshot notifications into poll-interval latency
exactly when things are busiest. This PR makes the flag safe to enable:
a replica miss of the since snapshot gets one jittered retry on the
replica (most lag windows are shorter than the ~50–200ms wait, so the
writer is never touched), then falls back to the primary, observed via a
new `run_engine.snapshots_since.replica_miss` counter with an `outcome`
attribute (`replica_retry` vs `primary`). Only genuine misses — absent
on the primary too — remain errors.
## Design
- `getExecutionSnapshotsSince` now throws a typed
`ExecutionSnapshotNotFoundError` so the engine can distinguish the
expected lag miss from real failures. The message string is unchanged
and the error never leaves the engine.
- The recovery path only engages when the flag is on, a distinct replica
client is configured, and no transaction client was passed. With the
flag off, the path is behaviorally identical to before.
- Retry delay bounds are configurable
(`RUN_ENGINE_SNAPSHOTS_SINCE_REPLICA_RETRY_MIN_MS`/`MAX_MS`, default
50/200; `MAX_MS=0` skips the replica retry and goes straight to the
primary).
- The warn log fires only when the primary serves the read (the writer
spill is the operationally interesting event); replica-retry recoveries
are counted but quiet. A permanently-missing snapshot id stays an
error-level failure with a `failedDuring` field, so lag metrics aren't
polluted by bogus ids.
- Stale-tail lag (replica has the since snapshot but not newer rows)
deliberately still returns the replica's view; the next poll catches up.
- The since-snapshot anchor lookup is now scoped to the polled run
(`where: { id, runId }`), so a snapshot id from a different run raises
not-found instead of silently anchoring a too-wide window of the run's
snapshots.
## Test plan
All vitest + testcontainers, no mocks. A new `schemaOnlyPrisma` fixture
(migrated-but-empty clone database) simulates a replica that hasn't
caught up, and a real in-memory OTel meter pins the counter semantics
per outcome.

perf(ci): speed up unit tests with LPT sharding + container scoping (#3855)
Speeds up and de-flakes the unit-test suite: testcontainers booted once per vitest worker (per-test isolation kept only where a test runs background redis work that outlives it), a duration-weighted shard sequencer so each shard does roughly equal work, the slowest suites split, two genuine flakes fixed (`streamBatchItems` shared-redis leak; run-engine waits that relied on fixed sleeps), and transient DockerHub pulls retried. **Timings (CI, per-shard wall):** worst unit-test shard ~771s → ~294s; packages/webapp shards ~250-270s, most internal ~190-240s. All 25 shards green. A shard breaks down as ~70s fixed setup (install / image-pull / generate) + ~70s cold `^build` + the actual container tests. So the remaining cost is mostly the tests themselves plus that fixed setup. **Next (separate, timings):** - **typecheck (~6m24s)** — the slowest check overall; bound by full-graph `tsc`, not the TS version (a TS6 branch is still ~6m17s). The real lever is **tsgo** (the Go compiler). - Possible later: turbo CI caching could trim the ~70s cold build on *warm* runs, but it's conditional (cold runs rebuild anyway) and doesn't touch setup or test time — secondary. `cli-v3` e2e and `sdk-compat` are path-gated (don't run on test-infra changes) and already comfortably fast. |

Brings the OpenTelemetry packages up to the latest coherent release
across the webapp and the published packages (`@trigger.dev/core`, the
CLI, `@trigger.dev/sdk`) plus
`internal-packages/{tracing,testcontainers}`:
- `@opentelemetry/sdk-node` 0.218.0
- `@opentelemetry/core` 2.7.1
- `@opentelemetry/host-metrics` 0.38.3
We were already on the otel 2.x line, so this is a same-major minor move
- the versions are pinned to `@opentelemetry/sdk-node@0.218.0`'s own
declared dependency set so the experimental (0.2xx) and stable (2.x)
packages stay coherent (mixing them is the usual otel breakage).
**One code change:** otel 0.215 made `forceFlush()` a required method on
`LogRecordExporter`, so `ExternalLogRecordExporterWrapper` (core's
tracing SDK) gains a `forceFlush()` that delegates to the underlying
exporter.
**Notable upgrades along the way:** OTLP exporters can take a custom
HTTP agent (connection pooling/keepAlive on the export path), HTTP
request headers are captured at span creation, and core hot-path perf
improvements in 2.6.1/2.7. `host-metrics` 0.37→0.38 is a clean upgrade.
Patch changeset added for the three published packages. References
projects are intentionally untouched.
Verified: `@trigger.dev/core` / CLI / `@trigger.dev/sdk` build, webapp +
`@internal/tracing` typecheck - all green.

feat(webapp): consolidate auth path + add comprehensive auth tests (#3499)
## Summary
Consolidates the webapp's authentication and authorization into a small
set of route helpers, replacing the ad-hoc `requireUser` /
`requireUserId` / `authenticatedEnvironmentForAuthentication` calls
scattered across routes. Same security model, but the per-request flow
(authenticate → authorize → load) now lives in one place per route
family.
Introduces a plugin seam (`@trigger.dev/plugins`) that lets the cloud
build install a richer RBAC implementation without touching webapp code.
The OSS fallback keeps the pre-RBAC permissive behaviour intact, so
self-hosted deployments work unchanged.
Adds a comprehensive end-to-end auth test suite that didn't exist before
— 193 `it()` blocks (vitest reports ~199 after `it.each` expansion)
covering API key, PAT and JWT auth across the public API surface, plus
dashboard session auth for admin pages.

queues, prompts, deployments, query, sessions, waitpoints, packets,
workers, idempotency keys
- `realtime.v1.*` — runs, batches, sessions, streams
- `engine.v1.*` — dev / worker-action protocols
29 routes still on the legacy `authenticateApiRequest*` helpers —
tracked as a post-deploy follow-up in TRI-9228.
Multi-resource auth direction is now explicit at the call site via
`anyResource(...)` (OR) and `everyResource(...)` (AND). Bare arrays no
longer typecheck — fixes a class of bug where a JWT scoped to one
resource could implicitly access others under OR semantics.
PAT auth path consolidated: was three DB queries per request (legacy
`authenticateApiRequestWithPersonalAccessToken` findFirst +
`rbac.authenticatePat` join + `lastAccessedAt` update). Now one query in
the steady state — plugin returns `lastAccessedAt`, host smart-skips the
update via JS-side throttle when fresh.
Side effect: action aliases preserved historic JWT scope semantics where
the new model is stricter (e.g. a `write:tasks` JWT now also satisfies
`trigger` / `batchTrigger` / `update` actions on the same resource —
matched at the auth boundary, not in the route handler).
### Backwards-compat fixes
The strict-match model regressed several real-world JWT shapes. Each
preserved via explicit `anyResource(...)` entries in the route's authz
block:
- **Batch retrieve routes** (`api.v1.batches.$batchId`, `api.v2.*`,
`realtime.v1.batches.*`) accept `read:runs` JWTs again (pre-RBAC
literal-match superScope behaviour)
- **Runs list routes** (`api.v1.runs`, `realtime.v1.runs`) accept
type-level `read:tasks` / `read:tags` on unfiltered queries (matched the
legacy `Object.keys` iteration semantic)
- **PAT/OAT auth shape** normalized through `toAuthenticated` so all
auth methods return the same slim `AuthenticatedEnvironment` (was:
API-key returned the slim shape but PAT/OAT returned raw Prisma
`Decimal` / no `orgMember`)
- **Scope `:` preservation** in resource ids — `read:tags:env:staging`
now correctly identifies the tag id as `env:staging`, not `env`
### Slim `AuthenticatedEnvironment`
Extracted to `@trigger.dev/core/v3/auth/environment` — a structural
shape independent of `@trigger.dev/database`. The plugin contract
returns this; webapp consumers import from there; the cloud plugin
(Drizzle) returns the same shape without Prisma's `Decimal` class
leaking into the public surface. Lets internal-packages (run-engine,
etc.) refer to `AuthenticatedEnvironment` without pulling Prisma in.
### Auth test suite (new — `*.e2e.full.test.ts`)
193 e2e tests run against a real spawned webapp + Postgres (no mocks).

## Notes
- **mcp-sdk chain**: `@vercel/sdk` in webapp imports `Vercel` API client
only; `mcp-server/*` subpath isn't loaded at runtime. cli-v3's MCP
server runs only via `trigger mcp` on developer machines. Bumping
`@modelcontextprotocol/sdk` to latest (1.29.0) wouldn't close these
alerts anyway - it ships hono ^4.11.4 which is still vulnerable - so
dismissal is the cleaner call.
- **References ignore list**: confirmed with current dependabot ignore
config; added `references/seed/package.json` (only gap).
- **undici** alerts (CVE-2026-1527, 4 alerts) will auto-close: lockfile
already at 6.25.0 > patched 6.24.0; just needs Dependabot rescan.
- **Effect 3.20 fix** is a runtime-only scheduler fix, no public API
changes - verified with research agent against our four `effect/*`
imports.
- **uuid 14** is ESM-only; we only call `validate`/`version` (no crypto
needed) so Node 20 requirement isn't load-bearing for us.

test: e2e auth baseline tests + webapp testcontainer infrastructure (#3438)
Adds a minimal end-to-end test harness that spawns the compiled webapp as a child process against a throwaway Postgres container, plus a baseline of 8 auth-behaviour tests. These tests will be used as a regression check before and after the upcoming apiBuilder RBAC migration to confirm auth behaviour is unchanged. ## What's included **`internal-packages/testcontainers/src/webapp.ts`** (new) Spawns `build/server.js` with a dynamically allocated port, polls `/healthcheck`, and exposes `WebappInstance` and `startTestServer()` (postgres container + webapp + PrismaClient in one call). Object Storage seamless migration (#3275)
This allows seamless migration to different object storage. Existing runs that have offloaded payloads/outputs will continue to use the default object store (configured using `OBJECT_STORE_*` env vars). You can add additional stores by setting new env vars: - `OBJECT_STORE_DEFAULT_PROTOCOL` this determines where new run large payloads will get stored. - If you set that you need to set new env vars for that protocol.
