Portainer Community Edition is a free, lightweight container management UI for Docker, Swarm, Podman, Kubernetes, and ACI environments. It is provided as-is, at no cost, for the convenience of homelab operators, hobbyists, students, and anyone experimenting with containers on their own hardware.
Portainer Business Edition builds on the same open-source base and adds the features, hardening, and commercial support that production and enterprise environments require (RBAC, GitOps, edge management, audit, SSO, and more).
Portainer CE is designed for homelabs, learning environments, personal projects, and other non-production deployments. It is not intended for, or supported in, business, production, or any other environment where uptime, security posture, or data integrity matter.
It is provided without support, without warranty (express or implied), and without any commitment as to fitness for a particular purpose. There is no SLA, no guaranteed response to issues, and no roadmap commitment. If you run Portainer CE, you are choosing to self-support, and you should be comfortable reading source, filing your own issues, and troubleshooting on your own.
If you need Portainer in a production or business-critical context, or you want commercial support, use Portainer Business Edition.
Portainer CE is updated periodically, with no guarantees on cadence, and is provided as-is and without support. Business Edition releases will be more frequent than Community Edition.
Portainer CE has no official support channel.
You may find help from other users via GitHub Issues and the community Slack, but any assistance you receive there is voluntary, best-effort, and provided by other community members rather than by Portainer. It is not a substitute for commercial support.
If you need commercial support, guaranteed response, or you are running Portainer in a production or business-critical context, buy a supported version at portainer.io.
