    Allow for non-dictionary inputs for testing nodes with node property references (#1814)

    Description

    This PR fixes a bug that occurs during testing of nodes with inputs
    defined by node references in flow.dag.yaml. Previously the inputs to
    the testing node needed to be full output dictionaries from the
    referenced node (e.g. ref_node.output) rather than the more natural
    specific property reference (e.g. ref_node.output.value).

    Fixes #1772.
